St James Lunch Club

‘My Brilliant Lunch Club’

On Wednesday 9th March we listened to an interesting talk given by Susan and Richard Kidd on Sailing around the World.

In 1998 they bought a boat, in 2000 they took early retirement and started sailing through 44 overseas territories starting from Chichester and finishing 16 years later in Portland after spending only 314 nights at sea.

We heard more about everyday life at sea rather than the glamour of the various countries they visited. It is a side of sailing that you rarely hear about. The mundane tasks of washing clothes, cleaning the bottom of the boat and so on.

Of course, the constant look out for hazards such as small boats and yachts, not to mention the weather and the sea which could be very rough and frightening with the boat being tossed around like a cork.

Still all very British even  starting a Sunday Lunch Club!!!

Altogether a very different life at sea than the ones we normally hear about.

Thank you Richard and Susan
