On a cold afternoon our hearts were warmed by good food and this humble enthusiastic and aminated speaker. For each potential piece he spends time in and around the site to absorb the atmosphere and intensity of the spaces before chirring away for the stone to sing out its message. His work utilizes deceptively simple forms such as rings, columns and cones.
Think Big as in the Arena on the South Bank outside the National Theatre and the Chiswell Earthworks, as part of the Common Ground New Milestone Project, Portland Dorset. Think Smaller for The Wren Stone, East Knoyle and The Ring, St Lawrence Church, Bradford on Avon then All-Sizes-In-Between will give an idea of the breadth of John’s work.
I am sure that all of us will view large outdoor stone sculptures in a different light.
